The Incredibles

Picture of The IncrediblesEver since watching the widely-successful "Toy Story" from Pixar Animation Studios, I have had high expectations whenever the company releases a new film. Fortunately, their new action-comedy flick did not disappoint.

"The Incredibles" is about a family whose members all have special superpowers, which they need to supress to be accepted by society. Of course, this changes when a villian captures the dad, appropriately named "Mr. Incredible," and the rescue mission begins.

The film takes awhile to introduce the characters and their background, which causes the movie to drag on a little bit initally. However, much of the background information given to the audience becomes vital later on in the film. While the plot of the movie takes awhile to get moving, once it picks up, the film is exciting all the way until the end.

As with other Pixar releases, "The Incredibles" is full of humorous remarks between the characters. Because the main characters of the film are part of the same family, it makes for some hilarious dialogue that most people can relate to. This is also one of the reasons the film is a great family movie.

While it makes a good movie for the whole family to see, "The Incredibles" is a bit more violent than Pixar's previous movies, as real guns and other weapons are used. Some characters are actually killed, though no death scenes are ever shown. Even some of the dialogue is has some more adult themes, which leads me to wonder if Pixar was shooting for a bit of an older audience with this film.

Overall, the movie is classic Pixar, with brilliant animation and realistic action. The facial expressions of the characters are amazingly true to life and really draw the viewer in. Also, in line with the Pixar tradition, the plot and dialogue are not overshadowed by the animation, but are well thought-out and make the movie a pleasure to watch. If you are in need of a family film or are just in the mood to watch a fun movie, "The Incredibles" is a great choice.
Pros
Fun storyline, enjoyable for kids and adults. Great choice of characters, good character development. Creative uses of the "Incredibles'" special abilities. Good balance of comedy and action. Excellent animation.
Cons
Story takes awhile to develop. Some themes a little darker than other Pixar movies, more animated violence.
